Drops of Darfur..

When I started working at Citizens for Global Solutions over two years ago, I immediately became involved with the Darfur campaign. In Darfur, a region located in Western Sudan, the Sudanese government-backed Janjaweed militia had routinely raided villages, executed adult males, raped adult women and girl children, burned homes and crops, stolen livestock, and kidnapped children into slavery. The need to solve the crisis was evident in face of the facts at hand: hundreds of thousands of people killed, millions of people uprooted from their homes, and the threat of the crisis spreading to neighboring countries such as Chad. Former Secretary of State Colin Powell called the atrocities in Darfur a genocide while former U.N. Secretary General Kofi Annan labeled Darfur the world’s worst humanitarian crisis.

Yet, the international community stalled to take action…
